In order to prevent injury and promote stability. If one muscle group becomes stronger than the opposing muscle group, it puts the body out of balance, and can negatively affect all related muscle groups and joints. Besides that, in the video, they were training both sides, not hitting balls from both sides (even though Vijay is known to do that fairly well). In any training program of any type, you really want to train opposing muscle groups, or you may be asking for trouble.

Bigwill is right as usual. The body works upon a system of equal and opposite reactions (agonist - antagonist) to keep the spine neutral which eliminates the risk of injury to the spine. Repetative motions in one direction really challenge this natural anatomical law. By training bilaterally with regard to the whold body system you maximize your ability to perform in specific performance modes that are often called sports, which are all pretty one sided, ofcourse exceptions do exist. Additionally, by training the whole body you raise your overall ability to increase strength and endurance. Certainly there is a place for 'golf specific' training but it should not be at the expence of a more balanced physical program. Vickie
