"frozen" wrist alignments and wrist cock when Hitting
Hi there,
can someone clarify the action of the left wrist in a hitting stroke?
I have read throughout these forums about the "frozen" alignment of the wrists that Ted Fort uses in his hitting stroke. Does that mean there is no wrist cock? From the videos of Ted on this site I can see he sets up with a right wrist bend and maintains that throughout. So maintaining a "frozen" right wrist must mean the left wrist does not cock and uncock... but that doesn't sound right since that is a power source that should be utilised. What am I missing?

Doesn't for me, either.
The shaft can still be bent with "frozen" wrists. Yet, it will be more easily and efficiently to be bent by bending and unbending of both wrists.

Absolutely a Hitter cocks and uncocks his Left wrist. Accumulator #2 is not zeroed out in a Hit Stroke Pattern. The uncocking for a Hitter is from a Drive Out of the Right Arm, Accumulator #1. All Power Accumulators are expended at the same time- onto the ball.
The term 'frozen' means the each half of the Flying Wedge remains 'frozen' from moving against its functional plane. The Left only moves in a Vertical plane and the Right only in a horizontal plane. Neither alignment affects how the other moves or functions.
So…A Left wrist can cock and uncock while a right wrist remains Bent.
NOW- A Hitter likes to keep the Right Wrist BENT throughout the stroke- from Hitter’s Address to Load to Start Down to Impact. A Swinger will start from a Standard Address and let momentum of the Take-away ‘bend’ the right wrist into alignment- although some thought is needed to how much bend is need with each club- it is not one size fits all. Impact Fix is a Great Educator in the Golfing Machine.
Frozen may not be the best term to a student but once you understand it- no problem anymore.

See that's where I start to get confused... I can understand that the left wrist cocks and uncocks on a vertical plane and the right wrist can bend and un-bend in a horizontal plane (you don't want to do any un-bending though), but both hands are holding on to a rigid object (grip end of the club) that means that when the left wrist cocks it will affect the right wrist as well. If I try to keep the right wrist bent while cocking the left wrist then the right wrist cocks as well. ie it stays bent back but moves up and down as the left wrist cocks and uncocks. Now I thought cocking the right wrist is a big NO NO.
So I don't see how it is possible to keep the right wrist bent back AND not cocking up while the left wrist cocks up???
Anyone care to clarify? Does the right wrist cock and uncock with the left?

No, the right wrist remains Level. Work it- find the right grip. I know it makes no sense written, but play with it. That is why the Flying Weges are so remarkable. Make sure your Pressure Points are correct.
BTW- the cocking of the Left Wrist is small- a few inches. The folding right arm does the trick. And remember the hands work on an incline plane.
If you set up in a Hitter's Address (like Ted- and Brian Gay!) - from there go to the top by folding the right elbow. The right should stay Level and Bent and the Left Cocked and Flat. LOOK LOOK LOOK.
I've promised for a while to post a video with Yoda about the Flying Wedges- it shows the assembly. I'll look for a clip that explains the left wrist cock too.
Grab a club and work the Hands. Then chip and/or do basic/acquired motion with it and really fill the head. I'll finish the videos.

Thanks Mike,
you are correct... trying to logically think about it makes no sense,
how can one wrist stay where it is while the other cocks and uncocks
Yet when doing it as part of the backswing from impact fix and throwing in the folding right elbow into the equation... somehow the left wrist does cock while the right stays bent back. I think I got it now... now practice, practice and some more practice
A video to clarify would be really really appreciated.
Thanks again for replying.
With the frozen right wrist. Bending and unbending the right elbow( passively or Actively) will cock and un cock the left wrist. refer to 7-3 book.
The magic of flying wedge automatically brings the left wrist to its perfect alignment at impact, which is flat , Level ( neither cocked or uncocked) at impact. At top of back swing, the left wrist is flat and cocked. After impact the left wrist uncock till the arms fully straighten and cock back up with the finish swivel.. ALL this time the Right wrist remains Bent ( which is set at impact fix) and Level .
Thus the frozen right wrist and forearm, combines with a flat left wrist that cock and uncock provides supreme accuracy.
Another good video to watch.. Tom Tomasello video letter 2 .

Ok... I realised you asked power. which is a different question.
Power comes from mass, and acceleration.. Mass = compression at its max. by proper alignment. Pressure point control, extensor action. and also the mass of club , how much weight you can put into the club head etc.
TGM identified 4 power source. Called
Accumulator 1.unbending the right elbow
Accumulator 2. Uncocking the left wrist
Accumulator 3. rolling the left wrist.
Accumulator 4. opening up the angle between the left arm and the chest. Or also arguably PIVOT speed.
The further they can travel, the more distance for acceleration and faster the speed. think john daly.
The more the accumulator is Delayed for release.. The Greater the acceleration (the rate it gain speed) and the higher the force at impact. F(power)=ma.square.
The greater acceleration at impact , the higher power is possible ( also higher speed). Gaining acceleration too fast by releasing the accumulators thus deceleration before impact thus losing speed and throwaway. think Tom Watson Vs Freddie couples. Tempo vs distance.
The smaller the pulley, the higher the more abrupt the change in direction and release. thus greater acceleration . ( Endless belt effect). another way to gain effortless speed.
Now.. the greater the speed... the harder to control and the more taxing on our muscle.
This apply to every swing and explains all swing. TGM is not a Model by itself. its a Golf Catalog and Golf Engineering book. So, succinctly put, there isn't really a " TGM swing", but a mechanically sound swing according to TGM.

Make the thumbs up sigh with your left hand. "Apply" # 1 pressure point of right hand heel (of the right hand) against thumb of left hand (extensor action - stetches left arm making it remain straight.
Now raise the left arm up ONLY by bending the right elbow. Make sure the right wrist does not cock. The left wrist has to cock, and you DO NOT have to cock the right wrist to perform the action (no need you are using your elbow).
I'll suggest you are just in the the habit of cocking your right wrist, instead of using only your right elbow. Your brain is associating moving the left arm with a right wrist cock. It does not have to be that way. UP can be provided only by the right elbow. (Almost certainly, the correct action will shorten your backswing and feel a little strange - it seems the whole "get to parrallel on the backswing myth would almost encouge a cock of the right wrist).
