Last year I my pro taught me a simple exercise to improve consistency. It was not soo easy to pick up, but I've learned it. The idea is to hit half-shots & focus on making use of the big torso muscles & sort of get the feeling of hitting with the navel. I can do that pretty well (most of the time) by now. In the backswing my left arm goes to horizontal and the clubshaft more or less to vertical. The feeling I have is that my arms are very passive and that the torso (back & tummy muscles) create the power. The shots go some 80-90% of a full swing.
The problem is that I cannot figure out how to apply that same "torso power" feeling when I hit my full shots. On the contrary in my full swings I have no feeling whatsoever of activating the "big" muscles. I even feel sort of a sloppy weakness in my midsection.
Now I wonder: What would be the best "path"/drill/concept to learn to make use of that midsection power even for the full swing. Or is it even that I will never be able to apply that same midsection power feeling for the full shot.
I am not sure, but the pro I have been going to seem to be a follower of Jimmy Ballard & may have picket up the drill from him. If it matters at all...
Thanks for any idea or advice on the subject. Even if it is telling me to forget entirely about that midsection power thing when it comes to the full swing.
