Bettinardi Staffer, Brian Gay Posts Another Top Five Finish At The Mayakoba Golf Classic At Riviera Maya-Cancun

Bettinardi Staffer, Brian Gay is hitting the greens strong and confident. The PGA Tour listed Brian as one of the Top 100 players to watch in 2011. Brian currently ranks 1st in Scoring Average (actual), 1st Final Round Scoring Average, 2nd in Scrambling, 2nd in Total Putting and 3rd in Putts Per Round.

Brian stated after the final round at the Mayakoba Classic "This club has a great feel and gives me the utmost confidence - more than any putter I've ever played. The guys at Bettinardi have me zeroed in. I'm looking forward to a great 2011 season."

Brian has been using his Bettinardi TOUR Prototype Putter for his past three TOUR seasons. Bettinardi Golf has introduced the Signature Series Two putter, modeled after Brian's TOUR Prototype into the 2011 product line. The Signature Series Two is milled from Bettinardi's premier Double Aged Stainless Steel, and features a standard plumber's neck, single site line, Bettinardi's patented TOUR F.I.T. Face (Feel-Impact Technology) and Tour Satin Finish. This prized putter will have a limited run for our 2011 season.

Bettinardi Golf is pleased to introduce the Signature Series Two putter, modeled after Brian's TOUR Prototype into our 2011 product offering.

PRECISION. PERFORMANCE. EXCELLENCE.

Certainly Brian Gay is playing well and hope he adds this to his titles. Sleeper pick is Jason Dufner and don't ask me why. Love his pre-shot waggle.

Anybody's guess.
I guess there are at least 100 of them that can win. Maybe a first winner, maybe a veteran - I'll go for Steve Marino or Ian Poulter or ....

And, let's not forget #1 in Driving Accuracy and #1 in Sand Saves.

Now we've got to get to work on those Scrambling and Putting stats!

Am I correct in that Brian needs to win a tourney to qualify for the 2011 Masters? If true, seems a shame as he is currently 31st in PGA money but only 103rd in world golf ranking. I know the Masters takes the top 50 in world ranking into the field. That seems to be a much lagging indicator. Brian was only 46th in world ranking in 2009 when he had more than one win (that got him in for 2010). Seems wrong somehow.

Winning means so much because you get free money in Hawaii and into the masters, and if you get into the top 50 you get into a slew of big tourney's. Tradeoff is I guess you are playing tougher events all the time with great fields.

The World Rankings and its qualifying criteria and weighting leave a lot to be desired. We're talking about weighting points according to performance on six world tours plus the Canadian, OneAsia, Nationwide and European Challenge Tours. http://www.officialworldgolfranking.....sps?iType=425

I find it more than a little interesting that a guy who has won three official PGA TOUR events and more than $9.5 million Official Money since 2006 has played in only one Masters (2010).

In terms of depth, the Masters field is certainly the weakest of the four majors.

Behind the Eight Ball
Tough finish for BG today at the Honda. Even par going into the Bear Trap (15-17), he emerged four over, and that's the way he closed the day (74 / +4).

It's gonna take a good'n tomorrow to make the weekend. He goes at 12:53.
