altRick Murphy has spent the last 25 years learning more and more about the golf swing. Along the way, he studied under the late Tom Tomasello and Mac O' Grady. More recently, he has worked extensively with Lynn Blake, who is rapidly gaining international recognition as a golf educator, private teacher, and PGA TOUR coach. The common denominator of these three is that each was trained as an Authorized Instructor of The Golfing Machine by its author, Homer Kelley.

In his career, Rick has worked with every imaginable type of student, from beginner to PGA TOUR player. As an example, he was employed from 1995-1999 by the Country Club of Bogota, Colombia, and given a three-fold task: Teach its 1,200 members; build a kids golf program; and train the eight staff professionals to improve their teaching. In the first ten months, Rick gave more than 3,250 thirty-minute lessons. In four years, he gave more than 12,500. Looking back, he says, "It was a learning experience I’ll never match in my lifetime."

Rick now owns and operates the Carolina Golf Academy in Greensboro, North Carolina. The facility has seven PGA / LPGA Professional Instructors on staff and runs numerous programs for players of all age and skill levels. Carolina Golf Academy supports Play Golf America programs, putting its focus this year on the Get Golf Ready program being developed for thirteen North Carolina colleges and universities.

Rick's accomplishments include:

  • 2009-2010 Golf Digest Top Ten Teachers in North Carolina
